The Best Restaurants In Beacon, New York

A gluten-free cafe, pasta on a patio, and four other great places to check out this summer.

If you take the Metro-North an hour and a half of NYC, you can be in Beacon, NY. Sure, you might solely be coming here to see some abstract art at Dia or want a place to stay after your seasonal trip to Storm King, but you’re going to need to eat before or after looking at sculptures and paintings all day.

So here are some of our favorite restaurants in Beacon. Here’s where you can pick up a gouda pecan salad, hang out on a patio that overlooks a waterfall, and eat a burger made out of brisket, short ribs, and angus beef while you catch an open mic night.

Homespun Foods serves the kind of food that won’t fill you up too much before your hiking plans. We’re talking about things like a gouda pecan salad and turkey avocado sandwich, and their back patio—with plenty of umbrellas for shade—is a particularly pleasant place if the weather is nice. Homespun is also on Main Street, and is close to a bunch of boutiques and the farmers market.

The Roundhouse should be your Beacon dinner spot. This restaurant that’s located in a hotel of the same name is the most upscale option in Beacon. Both the dining room and the big, string-light-covered outdoor patio overlook a waterfall, and they’re each great places to eat some deviled eggs, blistered shishito peppers, and housemade pasta on a nice evening.

Towne Crier Cafe does a ton of live music, whether that’s local singer-songwriters at night or jazz quartets during Sunday brunch. You can sit on a couch or at the bar and enjoy a drink, or have a meal at a table and wait for the entertainment to begin from one of the two stages.

Dig into a grilled cheese with a creamy tomato bisque or a hearty burger made with a mix of brisket, short rib, and angus as you listen to the open mic on Thursday nights. You may even see somebody famous (or sort of famous) perform—legend has it that Kevin Bacon has stopped by.

Dogwood is a solid pub with very good cocktails and live music almost every night. They have a great selection of beers from upstate New York, and their very good cocktails include an expert Bloody Mary and the Dogwood Rita. Eat Church is now serving food at Dogwood six days a week, so expect an Asian-influenced menu Tuesday-Saturday, and Indian dishes on Sundays.

Kitchen & Coffee is entirely gluten-free, and even if you don’t care about that, you should still drop in whenever you’re in or around Beacon. They serve toasts, sweet and savory bowls, salads, and more—it’s a great spot for a casual lunch after checking out Hudson Valley Vinyl on Main Street or before driving back to the city, since you can grab a coffee and some snacks to go.

This is Beacon’s go-to independent coffee shop. As you might expect of a coffee shop around here, they have a lovely outdoor patio where you should have a latte (or a beer) while you plot your next move around town. Which could be checking out a couple shops nearby or going across the street for some ice cream at Beacon Creamery.
