The idea of a supper club, in theory, is simple: fantastic food in an atmosphere that feels more like a friend’s dining room than a restaurant. And although places like this have been trending in almost every city, few really nail it. That’s where Her Place comes in. The Rittenhouse restaurant feels like the next generation of these supper clubs–with better food and no membership requirements–and easily stands out as one of the best in the city (and across the country).

Philadelphia's Best New Restaurants Of 2022

The chef behind Her Place started throwing dinner parties in NYC out of her apartment, and the meals were so good that strangers would voluntarily show up. In 2021, she decided to move the party to Philly, starting as a pop-up and then evolving into a permanent situation over a few months. The result is somewhere that that's unlike any other restaurant in the city, and it's a place you'll want to save for special occasions and at the same time come back as often as possible.

There are a lot of things you should know before you eat here though. They serve a four-course $85 tasting menu that changes every two weeks, and to get a reservation, you’ll need to be ready when they drop them on Sundays at 6pm—we recommend setting a timer for 5:59pm. But if you miss out, or your wifi lagged at 6:01pm, you can also head there for their casual Monday dinners which are walk-in-only and cost $50.

The dining room only has a handful of tables, but you’ll find plenty of cookbooks, plants, and so much china that you could feasibly be on the set of Downton Abbey. The thoughtful touches are what make this restaurant feel so special, including the fact that you’ll always find an appetizer—like a warm carrot bun with carrot butter or thin slices of cured meat—waiting for you when you sit down. After that, you can expect things like tender and crispy chicken topped with truffles, lobster ravioli, and some profiteroles for dessert. Each dish will usually be the best version of ravioli, crab, or puff pastry you’ve had in a very long time.

Even though the chef worked in spots like Vetri Cucina, Roman’s in NYC, and Joe Beef in Montreal, her greatest talent is making this restaurant feel like the best dinner party of all time—which goes beyond just the excellent food. You’re strongly encouraged to introduce yourself to the surrounding tables, and by the end of the meal, you’ll feel like you’ve made a new set of friends. We’ve even overheard somebody tell the table next to them that they could probably deliver a baby because they’ve watched every season of Grey’s Anatomy.

Her Place manages to create a restaurant where it feels totally natural for strangers to talk about such ridiculous things. Not to mention that it’s the only place in Philly where you can eat fine dining-quality food while harmonizing with the chef to a Destiny’s Child song—all while you watch her put the finishing touches on a gorgeous plate of pasta.
